A colonoscopy is an exam used to detect abnormal changes in the colon and rectum. During the procedure we examine the colon for colon polyps, masses and possible causes of symptoms include abdominal pain, rectal bleeding or change in bowel habits. A tiny long flexible tube (colonscope) allows your physician to examine the entire colon. Colon cancer screening typically starts at age 50.
